Erdem Helvacıoğlu



Erdem Helvacıoğlu is one of the most worldwide known “new music and electronic music” composers, sound designers, producers and guitar players from Turkey. He is an ambitious and accomplished composer, as well as a captivating performer and has several works to his credit and performances all around the world. His music has been performed and broadcast all around the world from BBC, ABC, WDR to Radio France. His compositions have been included in most prestigious festivals in America, Europe, Argentina, New Zealand, Canada, Korea. He has received numerous international awards for his electronic music. He has received commissions from the 2006 World Football Championship, TBA 21 The Morning Line, Borusan Center for Culture & Arts, Arter “Space for Art”, The Association for the Art of the Harp, Novelum Contemporary Music Festival, International Istanbul Bieniale (IKSV) and by world famous New Music ensemble Bang On A Can-All Stars. His sound installations have been included at such places and galleries as 10th International Istanbul Bienale, Los Angeles Track 16, Indonesia Soemardja, Köln Museum für Angewandte Kunst, London Menier Gallery and NOA Ali Hoca, Galata. He is also actively involved in composing for films, multimedia productions, contemporary dance and theatre. His film music has been heard at Cannes, Sarajevo, Locarno, Seoul, Sao Paulo and Sydney film festivals and he received the “Best Original Soundtrack” award in the 2006 Mostramundo Film Festival. He has collaborated with Mick Kam, Jacob Young, Elliott Sharp, Kevin Moore, John Wilson, Kazuva Ishigami, Luo Chao-yun, Craig Green, Bill Walker, Nathan Larson, Nina Persson, Tod Reynolds, Kinan Azmeh, Jefrey Roden, Ros Bandt, Natalia Mann, Stefan Osterjo, Per Boysen, Şirin Pancaroğlu, Saadet Türköz, İzzet Kızıl and many more. His second solo album “Altered Realities” has been included in the “Best 20 albums of 2007” list, in its own genre, by All About Jazz, Textura and Cyclic Defrost magazines. His electroacoustic album “Wounded Breath” has been included in the “Best albums of spring 2009” list in Culture Catch magazine along with artists such as Radiohead and Bob Dylan. He has released the album “Sub City 2064” with Per Boysen, with was chosen as the “album of the year” by Blogcritics and Perfect Sound Forever magazines.
